La Piazzetta in Portofino provided the setting for an event hosted by Pirelli in collaboration with the Municipality of Portofino to celebrate the successes of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team in the most recent America’s Cup, held in Auckland in January-March 2021. A discussion, moderated by journalist Giovanni Bruno, saw the team’s president and CEO of the Prada Group Patrizio Bertelli welcomed on stage, as well as Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice chairman and CEO of Pirelli, Max Sirena, the skipper and team director, helmsman Francesco ‘Checco’ Bruni, operations manager Gilberto Nobili and design coordinator Horacio Carabelli. The president of Circolo della Vela Sicilia, Agostino Randazzo, was in the audience. The event, which took place against a particularly scenic backdrop in a summery atmosphere, provided an opportunity to relive images of the 36th America’s Cup and to hear the stories direct from the mouths of its main protagonists. But it also served to highlight the importance of protecting the seas, through the work and commitment of the One Ocean Foundation, of which Luna Rossa is a founding member and Checco Bruni is an ambassador. At the end of the event, all members of the panel confirmed their wish to continue the challenge in the next America’s Cup, and to start again, as Max Sirena put it, “stronger than before, with a single, common goal: to win the America’s Cup with Luna Rossa, and to win it for Italy”.
