The Prada The Symbole campaign – the work of three artists, Catherine Opie, Thomas Ruff and Carrie Mae Weems – was conceived as a triptych, a series of portraits starring the Prada Symbole bag and the actor Hunter Schafer. The shots depict three different sides of Prada, from the viewpoint of each artist: although they face the same figure and the same object, they reach their own individual conclusions, allowing different facets to emerge, with each series of images connected to a canon of artistic expression. Opie’s work revolves around the body, identity and new codes of beauty, with images that seem to carve Hunter Schafer into a series of triangles; Thomas Ruff reinterprets conventional languages, distorting and manipulating reality; and Carrie Mae Weems’s photos take inspiration from concepts of identity, representation and projection, reflecting notions of transformation and courage.
