Conceived for the first time in 2007, the Galleria bag is a Prada archetype, a neo-classic that flawlessly combines history and modernity. This timeless object has been endlessly reinvented since in launch, becoming a distinctive symbol of the brand’s identity. The bag takes its name from Prada’s historic boutique in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan, where the brand was founded in 1913. It was first produced in Saffiano leather, a scratch- and water-resistant calfskin created using an elaborate hot-pressing process, patented by Mario Prada and still a Prada hallmark today. With a sleek, enduring, pure and simple design, the Galleria bag references classic styles of the past: its angular shape and curved handle at the top recall the framed, medicine-style bags that were fashionable in the mid-twentieth century. A trio of parallel compartments, including two with zips, are concealed inside, while another pocket is hidden at the bottom. Made from 83 individual pieces, its creation stems from the perfect combination of industrial precision and the refined and meticulous craftsmanship that can only be achieved with handmade items.
