Upcycled by Miu Miu is continuing its quest to foster a culture of sustainability in the fashion industry. The project, which launched in December last year with a collection of 80 unique, numbered garments dating from the 1930s to the 1980s, has this spring decided to give denim a new lease of life in a special partnership with Levi’s®. This time, Upcycled by Miu Miu is celebrating a range of pre-worn and pre-loved original, unique and vintage US-made denim garments from the 1980s and 1990s, including the 501® men’s jeans and the trucker jacket. These emblematic pieces have been readapted and customised by the fashion house, playfully juxtaposing masculine and feminine styles – perfect for the free spirit of the Miu Miu woman. The original denim has been brightened up with unmistakeable crystal, pearl and floral embroidery, while duchesse satin puff sleeves or Art Deco-inspired leather intarsia applique provide a fresh twist to a classic design. The jeans have been finished with duchesse cuffs or trim, or cut to become shorts, and the hand-embroidered blousons feature prominent collars made of white lace. To mark this collaboration, the iconic Levi’s® backpatch has been reinvented in pink and altered to include the Miu Miu logo, while a version of Miu Miu’s signature tote bag incorporates the classic Levi’s® logo in contrasting colours. The classic denim garments, reimagined through Miu Miu’s non-conformist and intentionally playful eyes, are worn by two of its muses in Johnny Dufort’s photographs: actress Emma Corrin and models Lila Moss and Georgia Palmer.
