The Metropolitan Museum in New York is celebrating 150 years since its opening with the exhibition About Time: Fashion and Duration, which chronicles how fashion has progressed and changed aesthetically since 1870, the year The Met was founded. The exhibition follows an abstract yet logical timeline, with texts by Virginia Woolf acting as a ‘ghost narrator’, and explores the way clothes generate temporal associations that conflate past, present, and future. To do this, each garment –black to emphasise the silhouette – is displayed next to another work from a different era with a similar shape, material, technique or decoration. Prada features with three outfits from the Fall/Winter 2007, Fall/Winter 2011 and Fall/Winter 2016 women’s collections, paired respectively with Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and Norman Norell.
