The “Tools of Memory” auction was a ‘white glove sale’, with all listed items selling and a total of €439,362 raised for charity, beating the pre-sale estimate. Prada donated all proceeds to the work being carried out by the UNESCO Global Education Coalition in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bidders from 27 different countries placed a total of 595 bids, with almost half of the lots selling for more than the upper estimate. The most successful lots were the two Rem Koolhaas sculptures from the Prada Fall/Winter 2020 show space, and the six photographs shot by Gigi Hadid, Daniel Arnold and Philip Meech also generated a lot of attention. Of the forty fashion items up for grabs it was the ‘total look’ created exclusively for the auction that reached the highest price, comprising an embroidered organza dress, choker necklace, metal headband, vanity bracelet and two-tone Mary Jane pumps.
