Prada presents Storytelling, a solo exhibition by Chinese painter Liu Ye, curated by Udo Kittelmann and supported by Fondazione Prada, at Prada Rong Zhai, the recently restored historic residence in Shanghai.
The exhibition explores the artist’s work through a selection of thirty paintings created between 1992 and the present day, revealing a personal world that is simultaneously accessible and impenetrable, where artistic production and everyday life intertwine. Each work is a self-portrait of the artist himself, with numerous sources of inspiration from the worlds of literature, history of art and western and eastern popular culture.
On the two main floors of Prada Rong Zhai, Liu Ye’s works reveal new possible meanings, coming into contact with the architecture and atmosphere of the villa, which visitors are free to explore from top to bottom. The result is a personal palimpsest of the artist, made up of the images, memories and stories he narrates.
