The new Levanella Logistics Hub is fitted with a geothermal ‘summer/winter’ air-conditioning system, one of the largest in Tuscany in terms of the volume of water involved. This advanced system brings together the latest technology with the company’s desire to care for and protect the environment.
The system extracts water from a large aquifer in the area around the Logistics Hub and uses a heat pump to turn it into heat energy, before returning the water to the aquifer at the end of the process. As a result, the warehouses can be kept cool in the summer and warm in the winter, using a single, efficient system.
There are numerous advantages over traditional air conditioning technology: geothermal energy is a renewable energy source, and so involves a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and zero emissions of fine particles. There is no risk of depleting the aquifer, as all the extracted water is returned later.
This major project, which involved significant investment, underlines the importance the Prada Group places in sustainable and environmentally friendly industrial development.
