Torre, the 60-metres high building marking the completion of Fondazione Prada’s headquarters in Lago Isarco, was inaugurated on 20th April.
This white-concrete building has nine levels, each featuring systematic variations in its plan, height and orientation (see NL#21): each level is taller than the one below it and rectangular plans alternate with trapezoidal ones.
The façades alternate glass and concrete surfaces, so that each level is exposed to sunlight to the north, east or west side, and the south side features an imposing vertical structure connecting it to the Deposito building.
On the six exhibition levels the Atlas project was unveiled. This emerged from a dialogue between Miuccia Prada and Germano Celant and hosts works from the Prada Collection created between 1960 and 2016 by artist such as Jeff Koons, William N. Copley, Damien Hirst, John Baldessari, Carsten Höller, Walter De Maria and Michael Heizer.
The building’s crowning touches are the Torre restaurant, on the sixth level, and the 160-square metre terrace with a panoramic view on the ninth floor, featuring optical black-and-white decoration and a mirror parapet designed to erasing the barrier between the space and the view of the city.
