Torre, the new building that marks the completion of Rem Koolhaas’ Fondazione Prada premises on Largo Isarco, Milan, will open to the public on 20 April. The building’s complex geometric structure, featuring a variety of constantly evolving spaces, reflects the architectural vision of the entire Fondazione. 60 metres tall and made of white concrete, Torre has nine storeys, all with carefully planned variations – each floor is taller than the level below, and rectangular floor plans are interspersed with trapezoidal layouts. The facades alternate glass and concrete surfaces, so that every floor receives light from the north, east or west side, while the southern side features an imposing vertical structure that connects it to the Deposito building (see floor plan). The exhibition floors, with a total of six galleries, will display works and installations from the Prada Collection, including twentieth- and twenty-first-century works by Italian and international artists. There will be a restaurant on the sixth floor, and a rooftop bar will serve the 160 square meters panoramic terrace that sits atop the structure.
