A city in the heart of America, pulsating yet anonymous, with its woozy streets, neon lights, an all-night grocery store and a 1970s bar, provides the set for a monologue from actress Carmen Lynch, introspective yet full of humour and irony. It offers a reflection on twenty-first century femininity, the theme that connects the films in the Miu Miu Women’s Tales project – Carmen is the thirteenth commission in the series.
Directed by director and actress Chloë Sevigny, Carmen stems from the combined efforts of the film’s star, who wrote the script, and the director, who intuitively and sensitively enacted the numerous sensations expressed in the screenplay.
Carmen was presented on 12 February at New York Fashion Week, in the Roxy Hotel’s private cinema. The premiere was attended by the director and lead actress, as well as over 200 guests from the worlds of cinema, fashion and art, including Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano, Zosia Mamet, Mackenzie Leigh, Rebecca Dayan, Mia Goth. The evening continued with an after-party at Paul’s Baby Grand, one of the trendiest bars in New York, with entertainment from DJ Brian DeGraw.
