SEA BEYOND, the educational programme promoted by the Prada Group and UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) to raise awareness on sustainability and ocean preservation, will participate to the second edition of the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC FEST, taking place from 17th to 19th November in Milan, at CityLife Anteo Cinema and CityLife Shopping District.
This edition’s theme, celebrating National Geographic Italy’s 25th anniversary, is “The Natural Capital”: more than 30 events, with over 60 guests, including some of Italy’s most important National Geographic Explorers, will address the main aspects of the impact on the environment. Events are free of charge, subject to availability. Prior registration required at: www.nationalgeographic.it/national-geographic-fest-2023. For more information, please find attached the National Geographic Fest press release and programme.
SEA BEYOND will participate to the event on the opening day, 17 November, with two events featuring Giovanni Chimienti, marine biologist and National Geographic Explorer:
- Conversation between Sofia Pasotto – activist and environmental influencer – and Giovanni Chimienti on SEA BEYOND’s commitment to preserve the ocean (12:30 p.m., Anteo Cinema, Sala Maestoso);
- Screening of the documentary “DEEP WHITE FOREST”/”IL BIANCO NEL BLU” (3:00 p.m., Anteo Cinema, Sala Corallo), recounting the scientific research of black coral conducted by Giovanni Chimienti in the waters of the Egadi Islands and the ocean literacy activities done with the local community to help them understand the rarity of the local ecosystem and the need to preserve it.
The screening will be preceded by a talk with: Marco Cattaneo (Editor-in-Chief of National Geographic Italy), Giovanni Chimienti and Francesca Santoro (IOC/UNESCO Senior Programme Officer).
