Barcelona has been chosen as the host city for the 37th America’s Cup, narrowly beating the other Spanish candidate, Malaga, as well as Cork in Ireland, Auckland in New Zealand and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, in the selection process. In September and October 2024 the waters of the Catalan capital will host races featuring the Defender Emirates Team New Zealand and the Challengers, including Luna Rossa, Ineos Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing and American Magic. The 2024 America’s Cup will once again feature AC75 yachts, the ‘flying monohulls’ seen in the 2021 event in Auckland. The America’s Cup is therefore coming back to Europe, and Spain will be the host nation for the third time in the competition’s 173-year history (after Valencia in 2007 and 2010).
