A journey to new territories in dialogue with the playful spirit of Miu Miu, which explores the distinctive features of the maritime world – its colours, emblems and attitudes – to create a collection that takes classic, archetypal clothing and gives it new and unusual forms. Miu Miu’s all-women crew made landfall on the concrete fortifications of Plage de Bon-Secours in Saint Malo, France, where they were photographed by Johnny Dufort. These women are always part of a collective or group, and this time they are a fleet or admiralty, brought together by their clothing, which symbolises the bond that unites them. Their fresh, spirited, ‘navy chic’ garments welcome the imminent arrival of summer, with traditionally male features like flap collars, wide shoulders and a practical appearance paired with typically feminine details, such as gently rounded sleeves, lace, ruffles and bows. The fabrics are fresh, light and simple: satin pois, poplin and durable cotton denim in marine blue, white, the palest of pinks and red. This visual language, as well as having inextricable links to nautical clothing, also speaks of other worlds. Details borrowed from children’s clothes and casual fashion from bygone days evoke a feeling of youth, holidays and freedom in one’s subconscious. Miu Miu Maritime describes the opportunities ahead of us, marking the beginning of a journey. The coast is not the end of the land; it is the start of something new.
