The first two round robins of the PRADA Cup, the Challenger’s selection races for the 36th America’s Cup presented by PRADA, ended in Auckland on January 17. Over the three days of racing, the three challengers competed in a total of six races, divided into two round robins. After two victories and two defeats, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli is currently in second position in the provisional rankings, behind INEOS Team UK, while the New York Yacht Club American Magic team, spectacularly capsized in the last regatta (watch the video). The PRADA Cup continues on 22-24 January with the final two round robins, at the end of which the team with the highest score will go directly to the final, while the other two teams will compete in a best-of-seven semi-final (29 January – 2 February). The final will be held on 13-22 February. The winner, as well as securing the right to challenge Emirates Team New Zealand in the Final Match of the 36th America’s Cup presented by PRADA, will be awarded a prestigious trophy designed by Marc Newson, one of the world’s most influential and innovative designers, and handmade by the finest silversmiths in Florence.
