The AC 75 Luna Rossa is now on its way to Auckland, due to arrive in the final week of October having set off on a cargo ship straight from the team’s Cagliari headquarters on 7 September. In Auckland – where the team members are currently in quarantine for two weeks in line with Covid-19 regulations – the team’s new base will soon be opening on the seafront at Hobson Wharf. The base is a stone’s throw from the Race Village, the focal point for all aspects of the America’s Cup World Series and Christmas Race (17-20 December 2020), the PRADA Cup (the Challenger selection regattas taking place between 15 January and 24 February 2021) and the final Match of the 36th America’s Cup presented by PRADA, scheduled for 6 March 2021. The finishing touches are currently being added to the team’s second AC 75 Luna Rossa at the Persico Marine shipyard in Bergamo, before it departs on a 38-hour flight for New Zealand in early October on an Antonov 124-100, one of the largest cargo planes in the world.
