Patrizio Bertelli has received the “Sailor of the Year – Tribute” award from the sailing magazine Il Giornale della Vela in recognition of his fifty years of sailing and twenty years of involvement in the America’s Cup, always at the highest levels of the sport, which saw him become the first Italian to be entered into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame back in 2012. His many years of experience as both a sailor and owner has included six America’s Cup campaigns and a plethora of international successes in numerous classes of boat, both period and modern. Patrizio Bertelli commented: “Thank you for this award, which I think should also be given to the extended Luna Rossa team, made up of all the people that have worked here over the past 20 years. The sailors I sail with are my friends. We are a team within a team. We recognise one another from afar. And I would like to dedicate the prize to my wife Miuccia, who has always supported me and encouraged me in my America’s Cup projects”.
