The Porcelain Room, a new exhibition from Fondazione Prada, explores the historical context, scope and impact of Chinese export porcelain. Curated by Jorge Welsh and Luísa Vinhais, the project incorporates over 1,700 pieces of Chinese porcelain created between the 16th and 19th century, including the largest number of Ming dynasty porcelain items decorated with European iconography ever displayed in one place.
The display, designed by Tom Postma Design, a brown velvet-covered structure with display cases and an intimate space decorated in gold, has the feel of a room within a room. The Porcelain Room is located in one of Torre’s exhibition spaces that houses a selection of works from Collezione Prada, triggering a dialogue between ancient and modern and a comparison of different cultural universes.
