The Museum of Costume and Fashion at Palazzo Pitti – the first museum in Italy dedicated to the history of fashion – is hosting Animalia Fashion, an exhibition exploring the influence the world of animals exerts on the creative process in contemporary fashion.
The exhibition, divided into seventeen sections, each focusing on a different species, examines the most important collections and top creative work of the last eighteen years, with a selection of clothes, accessories, footwear and jewellery inspired by the animal kingdom. Sometimes the creatures are referenced explicitly, while other designs spark viewers’ imagination, encouraging them to form mental associations through shapes, textures and colours.
Prada features in the exhibition with a look from the Fall/Winter 2011 women’s collection and with Entomology, a limited-edition bag resulting from a partnership with Damien Hirst.
