The upcoming opening Torre restaurant, on the sixth level of the eponymous Fondazione Prada building, covers an entire floor and is split into two spaces, bar and dining room. It features works of art, design furniture – created by Eero Saarinen and Philip Johnson, among others – and is characterized by the contrast between its large floor-to-ceiling windows and the warm hues of parquet and wainscoting.
On its left side, the bar space has a fireplace dominated by two important works, Cappa per caminetto (1949) and Testa di medusa (1948-54) by Lucio Fontana, while the dining room, introduced by Fontana’s polychromatic ceramics Pilastro (1949), is arranged on three slightly tilted levels, recreating the idea of a belvedere.
The terrace, with a triangular plan, overlooks the urban space, with a unique view of the Milan skyline. It contains a bistro-style restaurant area with folding tables and chairs, and a bar area.
The seventh level hosts the ‘Chef’s Table’, an exclusive, restricted space featuring a glass wall with a view of the kitchens, and a private terrace.
The Torre restaurant’s menu is authentically Italian, drawing on the best of regional traditions to create a contemporary and creative offering.
The restaurant will also function as a meeting point for international cuisine: over the year guest chefs under 30 will be preparing specialties from their home country for two week periods, following the principles of ethical and sustainable cooking.
